School of Environment and Architecture (Rupali Gupte and Prasad Shetty)
The School of Environment and Architecture (SEA), founded in 2014 by eight architects, is a space for research, education, and knowledge dissemination in architecture and allied disciplines. Over time, SEA has established the Centre for Spatial Studies for research, SEA-City for artistic events, and SEA-Press for publications. In its institutional form, SEA operates as a cooperative of practices where teachers, with active academic and professional lives, shape the pedagogy. The teaching-learning process is collaborative, conversational, and responsive, focused on interrogation and generation of new knowledge. SEA seeks to build friendships, critical thinking, and respect for different viewpoints, with a strong sense of justice, political awareness, and aesthetic engagement. Effort is made to provide resources for all, protect freedom, and respect diverse opinions.
Rupali Gupte and Prasad Shetty, SEA co-founders, are architects and urbanists based in Mumbai. They are also founders of BardStudio and have exhibited work internationally. Rupali’s research focuses on South Asian architecture, housing, and urban spaces, while Prasad’s work spans urban management, form, pedagogy, and culture. Their interdisciplinary projects include writings, installations, curation and spatial interventions.
