Muhammad Khadafi Karim Abdullah
My name is Muhammad Khadafi Karim Abdullah, but people usually call me Khadafi or Dafi. I was born and raised in Kalimantan—specifically in the city of Balikpapan—and later decided to move away to study in Makassar, South Sulawesi. I’ve learned a lot in this city while pursuing my studies at Alauddin State Islamic University in Makassar, majoring in International Relations. I was involved in campus and regional organizations, and I actively participated in workshops, talk shows, and public discussions; served on organizing committees and as a volunteer; and also spent time critiquing my country, which can sometimes be quite chaotic. In late 2023, I joined Riwanua, an arts and culture collective; becoming part of them has taken me on a journey of relationships that is both long-lasting and enduring—just as it has with every group I’ve encountered and been a part of. Running a collective with limited resources has made me realize the importance of mutual support and care among people in my community, protecting nature, and being more aware of today’s social conditions. Through our artistic and cultural work, we’ve created numerous archives and initiatives to preserve and advance our culture here. In addition, I’m also active as a freelancer at PT Edupact, which operates in the field of education. My time as a student has now come to an end, and I’ve been awarded my bachelor’s degree. Through my network of friends, I’m ready to help build a better world.
